Hi,
Took on board (i think) what solypsis and keith hic were kind enough to discuss with me 204 days ago, or so the forum timer says, so I've been hard at work, and shat this out.
http://www.archive.org/download/RaminderMulla_FelixHelix4_27/427.mp3
I spent a lot of time making it "perfect," and that which I couldn't perfect, I'll try ameliorating in the next song. I suppose the next thing to say is Keith, and Solypsis, if you're out there, this one's for you.
Regards,

I have an idea for a compilation. Yes, one of those things which brings us all (well, most of us) together in a peace and harmony.

I bought at Christmas a Psychic TV 12inch of one of their old acid songs. Apparently,
despite the appearance on the sleeve, both sides are by the same people under different names.
In fact the whole album it comes from is a fake compilation.

I was thinking it would be fun to do an Acid compilation the same way - anyone who contributes a track would do it under a pseudonym they have never used before: you're not allowed to call yourself by your normal "perfomance" name or one you've used before!

Is this a dumb idea? would anyone be up for it? it ain't exactly the most world changing idea as i'd like to keep the sound fairly traditional i suppose.

I guess by starting this thread i am volunteering to curate the damn thing.

any thoughts?

just tossing this one out there for consideration….

as we're currently engaging this issue of physical releases, perhaps this idea will have some merit/

it's been fairly well accepted that the Can Buy Me Love series has pretty much run its course, but it's a model for physical product creation that deserves to continue some sort of life. well then, how about this:

most everyone wants to release an album of their own on CD or vinyl, but few have the money to see it happen. Mitch's problems seeing his album released are a perfect case in point // the desire is there, but the money never seems to be fully available.

now, what if you had "sponsors"? let's say you have a 40 minute album you'd like released and at the end of the album (hell, perhaps scattered throughout the album) there appeared "commercials" provided by various other artists? what if the remaining 40 minutes of the disc were paid for by people who did remixes of the album's tracks, or even with original compositions? perhaps the primary musician could front the bulk of the pressing costs and the rest could be supplemented by other artists who could gain exposure similar to CBML only perhaps at a lesser investment?

i know i would be happy to provide a remix and some cash to Mitch. he's helped ALL of us out here in a variety of ways with his Hallo Excentrico netlabel.

anyways, these albums would obviously benefit from having a very motivated organizer in the primary artist…

thoughts?

most of us are old enough to transverse across at least a few music mediums……vinyl, cassette, CD, mp3……

but for those of us that are old enough to remember actually buying music….how has your consumption of music changed since the advent of downloads? i experienced a brief period of overload, wherein i downloaded EVERYTHING…gigabyte upon gigabyte of audio, only to reach a sort of equilibrium where i slowed down to a crawl and now only download the things that i know will be of interest. if anything, i now consume LESS than i used to because the overabundance of choices has given me a kind of "choice paralysis"…..

anyways, i find it to be very odd….i used to be one of those nerd kids that went to the local indie record shop 2 or 3 times a week and sifted through every single CD in search of the latest arrival and unheard gem, whereas now the choices are so immediate and plentiful that i find myself being woefully ignorant of the "next big thing".

i don't know if this is a normal part of the aging process/jadedness of a long-term music listener, or the result of the MP3 orgy we're now experiencing….or both.

i'd be interested to hear from people who have come of age AFTER the advent of downloads to hear how they consume new audio.
