Yeah, while we're all in the mood I suppose we should try and think of something. Here's a flawed idea to get us started…

Everyone who has copies to sell puts their names forward along with a PayPal address, and the country they're based in, for instance "Mixomatosis / lee.ashcroft@blahblahblah / UK" or "Solypsis / solypsisnoise@etc / USA". We then jumble them all up into a random order, keeping each country's sellers seperate, so we'll have a list for sellers in the UK, Ireland, USA, Japan, Australia, etc. Then let's say someone in Ireland wants to buy a copy. The first person on the Ireland list takes the sale, and then moves themself to the bottom of the list. Then an Australian wants to buy one, and the same thing happens again. Now someone else in Ireland wants a copy, so the person who was second on the original list - now at the top after the first person moved to the bottom - takes the sale. And so on and so forth until everyone sells out, probably some time in 2017.

Now here's where this idea falls apart then… the price for the compilation would have to be fixed, otherwise it simply wouldn't be fair on certain buyers. And that price would have to be converted across all currencies, which given the current state of the global economy mightn't be particularly easy to keep track of. Also, what happens if someone in Africa for instance wants to buy a copy, or country where there isn't someone selling copies? I guess in that case it could be passed on to someone in the nearest zone, but it's hardly foolproof is it?

No, this isn't necessarily a solution, but it's something to get us started at the very least, because it's nearly 2 years since CBML4 came out, and we really should have sorted something out by now, shouldn't we?

Indeed - there must be a fair few copies still sat around, I'd guess.

So far, I've tried shifting them on both eBay and Discogs, with minimal success, so any new idea on how to move the rest would be appreciated.

i got rid of all my copies of cbml 1-4 years ago by just handing them out to friends, handing them out at gigs and sending them to DJs and promotional outlets. i never really thought of the discs as a source of revenue…

it would be very cool if someone took the initiative to send a copy of each volume to AllMusic.com. i did that with this:

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:3nfoxqwsldae

they have a submission guide on their page, it's pretty easy. i would do it, but i have no copies left.

speaking of sales, though…has anyone looked into pressing more shirts? the guy who made our original run of shirts has discontinued making stuff altogether…anyways, i've been asked on more than one occasion how/where to buy a DV shirt.

Some of mine went to friends and family - most of the people I know aren't into anything like this at all, which limits that avenue - and I sent one copy to the Chabet Show in France (they played at least three tracks from it on air).

As I haven't played any gigs as yet (I'm hoping to rectify that later on this year) I haven't been able to dispose of any that way. It's not as if any of us are expecting to make a packet from this - just covering my outlay would do me fine.

The possibility exists that somebody may want to actually buy one of these and been put off by the vague comments on the '…buy DV releases' page. If they can't see a big 'BUY HERE' sign they normally give up…

Well the idea mooted above would be concealed from punters, so as far as they're concerned it would be no different to sending money via PayPal for anything else. From their end it should be fairly straight forward.

And I know a lot of people are selling copies, to make up their outlays as TC says, which is why it's important to try and create a fair system for anyone wanting to sell via this website. You can do what you like outside these virtual walls obviously, but within…

I like the idea lee but the organisation wuld need some one to control / organise it.
Also i'd suggest that prices are standardised per region - tieing up global prices could make it more expensive and sell less in some areas…

A simular percieved common price would be good thou (i.e. = price of 5 loafs of bread?).

But I bought a loaf for 35p yesterday, and a week ago I bought one for £1.40.

But I take your point… :P

What Keith Hic says is actually fair.

In stead of using nominal rates it's maybe better to use PPP rates (using he Big Mac index). By this we can compare the actual purchasing power of a dollar with other currency (ruling out that currencies can be under or over-valued).

Although it's for a "small" amount, it the most correct method (in my opinion)

i just took mine to record shops and sold them on consignment. you'd be surprised at how many people actually go to record stores and buy music. still got cbml4 copies though, cos i've been lazy.

Is someone registered with Amazon.com? I can't write a review apparently as I haven't bought anything from the dot com version of Amazon. If so, someone should write a review to say firstly how awesome the comp is, but also that 1) It's not Out of Print (as amongst us there are still copies available) and 2) to point them to here or the Discogs marketplace to get a first hand copy at a decent price to put profiteering bastards like this out of business.
