Digital Vomit Records

Coming in the next few days, a 25-year old musical oddity that as yet remains unattributed to any artist. The strongest rumour is that it was by an "Unknown Top-Ten Artist" here in the UK. Some say Captain Sensible, some say Tony Hawks (the comedian and travel writer that is, not Tony Hawk the pro-skateboarder), some say the "Top-Ten" bit's a red herring…

The MP3, weighing in at 4:39 and around 10mb, will be accompanied by a minisite dedicated to finding out who was responsible for this obscene piece of smooth jazz from 1984. I figure a good way of finding out who's responsible is to release it myself and wait for someone to claim copyright. It's certainly worth a shot.

The release will also contain artwork and instructions on how to make (and distribute) your own CD-R singles, so you can join in on the mystery.

(Some of you may have heard me play this during sound checks at Mixo gigs in the past…)

There's going to be a delay in the proper release, as an associate of mine is currently waiting to hear back from members of The Damned to find out if it has any link to the band or Captain Sensible. If it is, the release might not happen due to rights reasons. If it's not, we can go ahead.

My gut tells me it's the Cap, and part of his feud with (one of my idols, I'll admit) Adam Ant.

Working fine today

My associate had an email from Paul Gray today, who despite having no knowledge about it, reckons it might be Captain Sensible, "seeing as it was a favourite phrase of Caps". Irony is, one rumour suggests that this was this song was dedicated to Gray's girlfriend at the time. We're currently waiting to hear back from Rat Scabies and The Damned's booking agent. The plot it doth thicken…
