wow…
that sounds like an actual achievement. i'm honestly shocked we're still alive and kicking.
good work, lee — you've done as much as anyone to keep this going for the last couple years at least.
blimey, that is quite a long time.
It's not bad for a label that no-one's in charge of. Maybe that's why it's lasted this long - if it were solely up to me or James I guess we'd have got fed up of it by now. The fact it's a free for all is probably the secret to its longevity.
Well, congratulations everyone, I think we've got a lot to be proud of here. Even if it all ended tomorrow I'd say the experiment has been a success. That said, there are quiet times and there are manic times, but it looks like DigiVom is going to roll on for a while yet.
Here are the top year end download stats for some of the stuff I'm hosting:
Aaaaargh - 3559
Amarok - 1570
Jimmy Buffer - 991
Not bad at all. Those are the highest ones which received the most hype, but pretty much everything gets between 200 - 400 downloads even when it's only promotion is through the homepage here, which shows that there's definitely consistent support for DV releases.
Onwards and upwards.
Maybe Hooray has some way of telling us how many people hit the homepage. That would be an interesting stat.
I'll look into it
congrats dudes!
i've only been around since 2007 (i think) but all my involvement here has been a lot of fun.
DV is consistantly a source of new ideas and inspiration for me, whether its from compilation albums or chat on the forum.
thinking about it, i may well have stopped making music a while ago if it weren't for this place.
having a 'home' for my stuff, where i feel confident enough to release it has made a massive difference to how i consider 'the point of it all' - which i do a lot (music making that is, not life in general!).
as well as that though, DV is always a source of new music for me to listen to, most of it i love and the rest at least challenges my perception of what is entertaining sound.
you're a great bunch of people and it's been an extraordinary honour and pleasure to be involved.
i have been hosting my releases on archive for a while, and my download totals are nowhere near as high as other stuff here, but if one person enjoys something i've done its worthwhile :)
subsonika LP: 450 downloads
super fun warning LP: 120 downloads
various single tracks: 700+ downloads
so, thank you for all that is digital Vomit, long may it continue.
Mattie - have you got the numbers for Pindown?
Aye, Pindown I have to say are the least downloaded (second to the Mobile Vomit archive, although 18 people still wanted that for some reason), with 81 downloads over both formats. That said, it's still creeps up every month, just like everything else here.
i'm still trying to figure out how people figured out that "jimmy buffer" was khonnor so quickly. i wasn't planning on telling his little secret - ever - but i guess i didn't have to.
anyways, i always thought it weird that it got so many downloads so fast. i think one host said it was downloaded 700 times in the first 24 hours…odd.
seriously, though, i never said a word to anybody, and i KNOW khonnor didn't, and we were the only 2 people that knew…apparently he has some obsessive, detective fans.
I don't know about anybody else, and I didn't blab when I discovered it, but I Googled that review quote.
you know, i kinda figured people must have done that, but i still didn't expect so many people to do that. but yeah, that's what must have happened. people are really catching on to this whole internet/google thing.
I dropped my first tune here for Aaaaargh! so I'm pretty fresh, but what strikes me is the feeling of collectiveness instead of the very common situation when people are starting labels, projects etc to be a boss of something. And nowadays it is easier than ever to be bossy without much input really.
DV is great no matter if considered an artistic community or a creative social experiment. An example of virtual democracy?
Much love and respect :)
Three and a half thousand downloads for Aaaaargh! Bloody hell, there's no accounting for taste eh?
to add to the stats
Everyone Loops (2009) - Downloaded 1,726 times
Guide To Successful Party Training - Downloaded 10,795 times
Number i never thought would be any where possible.
DV rules!
New stats show Aaaaargh up to 4125, Amarok 1819… And everything else still edging upwards… So even when it seems quiet round here all those downloads are still being grabbed.
Aaaaargh! has also shown up on a couple of Russian download sites and at slsk (as has my last album, strangely enough) and the number of plays my track on it has on last.fm now suggests somebody out there is paying attention…
