I dunno, I like desktops because they're easy to modify.

what do you plan on doing with it?

for music production, i'd go with a desktop because they're cheaper and more expandable — i just got 2.33 ghz PC with 2 gigs of RAM, an M-audio soundcard and a 20" flatscreen monitor for under $1000 u.s. —- but if you want something for playing out, i'd just go with anything that has at least a gig or 2 of RAM and 1.8 ghz processor speed. you should be able to get a fairly inexpensive used one with those specs.

otherwise, i guess you could be one of "those" people and buy an apple laptop, which are supposedly the greatest thing ever in the history of the world (assuming you are made out of money).

i'm no help whatsoever.

well basically all i want it for is making music, listening to music and playing gigs……..probably not much else.

i've decided to pretty much rule out the mac option, because it would cause too much hassle. im not going to be buying it until sometime early next year so if anyone else has some advice to offer, please do.

advice: trawl the internet / computer shops to find a place that has 100's of great computers within your price range.
you CAN get good deals from the little shops sometimes, but you'll get a better idea where the real market value lies from looking through the big warehouse type places.

is 388pounds too expensive?

no, its not too expensive…..but im just thinking about the hassle of making the change to a Mac. and also, getting Mac compatible software and stuff. cheers for the tip though.

im going to have a good long think about this before i buy anything anyway.
